Goober has got the total hook-up with his orthodontist. Dr. Straight-Teeth is the king of word-of-mouth marketing. He has this big reward system where he gives the kids wooden nickels that they can accumulate and then trade in for certain prizes. They receive the wooden nickels for showing up for the appt on time, with clean teeth, wearing their Dr. Straight-Teeth t-shirt, etc. Of course, when Goober told me about the t-shirt thing I tried explaining the concept of free advertising to him, but he just started counting his wooden nickels... While Tongs & I were visiting, Dr. Straight-Teeth rented two screens at one of the local theaters and showed Shrek the 3rd for his patients, their parents, and one friend. As I said, Dr. Straight-Teeth is a marketing genius.
Goober and I discovered that Tongs had not seen any of the Shrek movies, so we made him watch the first one while we were visiting them. He laughed in all the appropriate places and said that he liked it, but I wasn't sure that he did. Then, last Saturday night, after Sister Mozelle of course, I was flipping channels and stopped briefly on Shrek. It was midway through, but we watched it. Sunday night, Shrek was playing again (TBS!) and Tongs made me watch the part that we had missed the night before. He even called his parents to try to get them to watch it. I'm thinking that maybe he's a fan.
